Just forwarded this piece on to my father-in-law, who used to attend his Young People's Concerts.

How fortunate he was!

I’d love to hear any anecdotes if you have

I love his version of Gershwin! I have to say that I sometimes find your essays uncanny and distance myself from them because I don't know how or why they came to be that way. But this I know is good and right. Thank you for mentioning the film, which I had not discovered.

What an interesting thing to say. What do you mean by that exactly ?

That you often address something specific just as I am thinking about it. Other people have done that tactically after invading my privacy in order to know what I have been thinking about, but of course you have not. It's just a fact that I am a bit wary any time I observe a certain degree of overlap and cannot explain it. It's nothing to do with you personally, I just realize that it predisposes me to be unusually contrarian.

Do consider yourself lucky if you don't understand what it is like to be chronically stalked and harassed.

Luckily, someone had the sheer brilliance to show the Mount Scopus concert on a pretty recent Independence Day. Not that I don't enjoy the Bible quiz, but wow. I loved seeing his excitement, his thrill to throw in a few Hebrew words, maybe even a bissel Yiddish. But also, how quaint the optimism now sounds to my jaded ears.
