The Treasonous Negotiations Between Israel and Lebanon
Israel has made significant tactical gains against its northern adversary. We all remember the remarkable beeper attack of September 17, which effectively stunned Hezbollah, followed by the successful elimination of the entire Hezbollah leadership during Operation “New Order” on September 27th. In the weeks that followed, the heroic IDF soldiers invaded southern Lebanon, uncovering and destroying extensive tunnel networks and vast stockpiles of weapons. According to the plans discovered by the IDF, these were intended for a large-scale invasion of northern Israel by Hezbollah, referred to as the “October 7th of the North.” As of this writing, 59 IDF soldiers have lost their lives in the brutal battles that are still ongoing in southern Lebanon.
On the civilian front, nearly 100,000 Israeli civilians have been evacuated from towns and cities near the northern border. Additionally, hundreds of thousands more Israelis are under constant missile fire coming from Lebanon. While the number of civilian casualties on the northern front is minimal compared to the catastrophe unfolding in the south, it remains a significant concern. In fact, the northern front may be more pressing and dangerous for Israel than the situation in Gaza due to the vast stockpile of missiles held by Hezbollah groups and the many highly trained troops stationed in the challenging, hilly terrain of southern Lebanon.
Hezbollah is an existential threat to Israel; it is the largest Iranian proxy, cultivated by the Iranian regime over several decades for one purpose—the destruction of the Jewish state.
Despite the serious threat posed by Hezbollah, Israel has made significant strides at a much lower cost than expected. IDF troops have successfully cleared many towns along the border and conducted strikes in Beirut. The momentum is clearly in Israel's favour. Hezbollah is currently in its weakest position. However, it seems that the leadership in Israel does not fully grasp the reality that Hezbollah's primary goal is to destroy Israel. As a result, they are engaged in a mental negotiation campaign under American pressure to achieve a ceasefire. Such an agreement would leave Hezbollah intact.
Imagine the Allies landing in Normandy and establishing a beachhead after suffering heavy losses of fallen soldiers. Afterwards, instead of continuing the fight, they negotiated with Hitler for an arrangement that would guarantee he would not attack the Allies again. This situation is similar to what Israel is currently negotiating with Lebanon.
In September 1938, the Allies reached the Munich agreement, and Hitler signed a piece of paper stating that he “didn’t desire” to go to war with England. We all know what happened a year later.
The insane part is that not that too long ago, in 2006, Israel also signed a piece of paper and agreed to a ceasefire with Hezbollah under the premise that the UN, under resolution 1701, would ensure that Hezbollah stayed north of the Litany River. We all know what happened later; we live through the consequences of that appeasement daily.
So how could Israel, during its peak momentum, suggest a compromise, yet another appeasement, and ignore the mistakes of the past that have led us to that point? I cannot think of a rational answer. It’s either madness or treason.
Those who support this appeasement will say that this time, it’s different. Israel will require that it has the right to act in Lebanon anytime it sees a violation of the appeasement. How is that different from where we are now? Why does Israel need to ask for permission to strike in Lebanon? What will Hezbollah do? Take down the F-35s?
Another case for appeasement is that this time, Israel will have “assurances” from Britain and Germany that they will make sure that Hezbollah stays behind the Litany River. How low has Israel fallen that it now needs assurances from Germany and Britain for its security? Have we learnt nothing from the past when we relied on these nations for our safety?
The only state that can assure the safety of Israeli civilians is Israel. It’s also the only country that has the moral obligation to do so. Why would the British taxpayer pay for the security of Israel?
This is criminal. It’s a betrayal of the Israeli citizens and our fallen heroes who have paid in their blood for the achievements they have made; on whose right is Netanyahu giving that away? It leaves Hezbollah room to regain its strength and plot the next October 7th. How could someone doubt that this is what they’ll do? It’s inherent in their very nature; it’s what they exist for.
What Israel should do is push much harder into Lebanon and annihilate any remains of Hezbollah. You don’t leave a rabies-infected dog alive. It needs to be put down; the faster, the better.
The Netanyahu government is putting Israel on a suicidal path. He and all of his associates need to immedietly resign.
