Yes, barbarians is the appropriate word for these 'people' , though that gives them a moral standing they do not deserve. The original barbarians came from a culture that didn't and couldn't know any better. Stand Tall, Israel!

Thank you for sharig this and calling attention to their playing of Hatikva at the end. What a triumph. I sadly could not find another outlet that reported on their playing of Hatikva at the end.

I recently watched an interview on the Free Press where Paul Kingsnorth argues that the West id dead.

I think he's right, except for in Israel where the ideal of the west are still alive.

This has made me cry. I immediately tried to book cards for the next concert of Lahav Shani with Berlin Philharmonic in January, though I don´t even know if I´ll be in Berlin then. If not I´ll give them away. It has to be sold out.

There will be an opening with Charles Ives´milestone opus "The unanswered question" followed by Shostakovich first Violin Concerto a minor op 77, which was among the first concertos I heard as a near toddler after long time wrecking my parents´ nerves, with David Oistrach ! This time it will be the Philharmonics` first violinist, a Japanese (Daishin Kashimoto). It will end with Dvoraks Symphony No. 9 ("From the New World").

It isn't often that tears well in my eyes when I read a substack. God bless the IPO. You article on “Where Are Our Cultural Heroes?” was, mentioned at Shabbat dinner last night - intertwined with the terrible portrayal of Leonard Bernstein in the film they just made focusing on his marriage. It was a bit of a shonda. Keep writing, you are so right
